3 questions for...

Mr. Sandro Bartolucci
Roma Servizi per la Mobilità S.r.l.
www.agenziamobilita.roma.it

Roma Servizi per la Mobilità S.r.l. is the mobility agency of the Municipality of Rome and carsharing is one of its services. What is its position in the agency’s structure and how is it related to other services that you offer?

Roma Servizi per la Mobilità S.r.l. (RSM), a company fully owned by the Municipality of Rome supplies several services for the Rome citizens, according to the service contract signed with the Municipality itself. Among these services there are the ones related with the development of Sustainable Mobility, like the following:

  • Support to private companies that want to implement shuttle bus services for their employees, reducing the use of private cars, in order to access to the grants supplied by the Ministry of Environment;
  • Design and deployment of the car pooling project for the city of Rome, through the creation of a dedicated website;
  • Support to the activity of the Mobility managers, a role mandatory for any company with more than 300 employees, with the aim to enhance the sustainable mobility of the employees (more PT, bike, car pooling, etc).

RSM has built a special unit that follows the design, development and operations of carsharing service, that’s part of the efforts of RSM to push the sustainability agenda of the Municipality of Rome.

You have been in the market for many years now. How are you perceived by other carsharing operators in the city and what is your relationship with them?

In Rome we are the only station-based operator, while there are two operators of free flow car sharing (Car2Go and ENJoy), with another one, fully electric, that’s going to start in the next weeks (Share’n’Go). While some of our customers use all of the other services, it seems that there is little overlap with the customer bases of the two systems (free-flow and station based), that aim indeed to different needs. In order to better understand the full picture, RSM is participating in a large project funded by the Ministry of Environment that aims to merge the data of all the operators of the sustainable mobility in Italy.

What is your most important management task in the next 12 months?

By the end of 2016 the service will add about 35 new parking areas with 50 cars more, reaching the near outskirts of the city and adding a 30% more capacity to the system. The challenge will be not only a matter of putting in sync the supply of the new cars and all the related technology in order to meet the time constraints, but to adapt to the new demand, with different needs compared to the ones of city center customers.
